Day 1 Ends Interestingly As Mayank Agarwal Hits Ton

There were twists and turns in the course of an interesting day 1 of the second Test match. The nail-biting cricket battle between India and New Zealand continues. Among the top two Test playing nations, India, finally emerged from behind as the first day’s two session winner. Day 1 ends interestingly as Mayank Agarwal scored a century in the final session of the day. The last and final session after the tea belonged to India, but India lost their inform batter Shreyas Iyer. If India keeps batting nicely another two sessions tomorrow, then a total of 450 runs will not be far. Having a first innings score more than 400 would be too good for a team batting first or second.

Earlier, there was some benefit of doubt to go in favor of Virat Kohli when on-field umpire hurriedly lifted his finger. However, Ajaz Patel was bowling decently at that time as he already picked two wickets. The third umpire required either to support on-field umpire’s decision or prove him wrong when it was reviewed. However, Kohli was given out as the third umpire took sometime, but shockingly he didn’t check the ball tracking.

Third umpire was again told by the on-field umpire to check the ball tracking. Ball tracking showed that the ball hitting the stumps and Kohli left the ground hitting his bat in disguise. The crowd booed the on-field umpires when they were stepping out after tea to do their duty. That was the time, which brought the second Test alive. Also when Shreyas Iyer and Mayank Agarwal pushed the scoring losing just 3 wickets. Shreyas Iyer got out again to the same Kiwi Bowler Ajaz Patel. It looked India was in trouble at that time. But a good fifth wicket partnership put India on top.

India Fight Back

India started the innings with a good looking opening partnership of 80 runs. Mayank Agarwal and Shubman Gill played some good cricket. But after the loss of Gill, New Zealand was back in the game again. Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, and Shreyas Iyer also got out to Ajaz Patel. However, Mayank Agarwal scored a ton while day 1 ends interestingly with Wriddhiman Saha supporting him to put India on top so far. Virat Kohli is now sighting a ray of hope to win this second Test after coming too close in the first Test when he was away. Both Kiwi and India captains not playing in the second Test after playing the first. However, the day 1 ends interestingly in favor of India again like the first Test.

Ajinkya Rahane, Ravindra Jadeja, and Ishant Sharma replaced by Virat Kohli, Jayant Yadav and Mohammed Siraj. Ajinkya Rahane led India to a draw in the first Test. The Wankhede stadium pitch has lot of bounce and pace. This will help India a lot. Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel will be key threat for the Kiwis. Mohammed Siraj is a good option to support Umesh Yadav as far as new ball bowling matters tomorrow. India fights back hard and playing good cricket as Mayan Agarwal is unbeaten on 120 while Wriddhiman Saha supporting him to be unbeaten on 25. A 61 run unbeaten partnership between both these players will be good for India.

It was a good toss to lose for the Kiwis, but India aggressively chose to bat and looks like Day 2 will also be interesting and in favor of India.
