Mohammed Siraj to return in ODIs starting from Jan 19

Mohammad Shami rested in the ODI (One-Day-International) series starting from January 19 against South Africa. However, Mohammed Siraj to return in ODIs likely along with Venkatesh Iyer. India to play three ODIs against South Africa. The first ODI will be from January 19 at Boland Park in South Africa’s Paarl city. Venkatesh Iyer is a talented left handed batsman and a medium pace right arm bowler. He’s an allrounder and fit to play in the bouncy South African turfs.

Shikhar Dhawan is fit and will be in, in the playing 11. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shreyas Iyer also the other two batters will be too good to watch playing in South Africa. If the first playing 11 will go for a change in the next ODI then Shreyas Iyer will be roped in.

India looks good on paper as Jasprit Bumrah to bowl as the new ball bowler again in the ODIs. He’s an all format performer for India and he has picked wickets when India wanted in all the formats. Mohammad Shami is Test specialist, but India will miss him, where in South Africa, he’s more dangerous ODI bowler too. He’s rested, but Siraj likely to play the ODIs under the captaincy of KL Rahul.

Virat Kohli also playing as a specialist number three or four batsman. Rohit Sharma is unfit, and it’s a big loss for India. A day ODI starting from 2: PM IST on January 19, where India has too many batting order options. Bowlers like Deepak Chahar (medium fast bowler) and Yuzvendra Chahal (leg spinner) not likely to make in the playing 11.

India looks strong on paper without Rohit Sharma

It will be good to watch few top players playing for India in South Africa. KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, and Rishabh Pant. ODI matches not necessarily batsmen’s games. Bowlers also need to be picked for bowling and bowling-allrounder performances’ basis. Also they should bowl at their level-best if a team tries hard to defend some runs on the board. An allrounder or a two in the team always a boon. Siraj is not an allrounder, and so he’ll not likely to be picked at the last minute.

India likes chasing and the inclusion of Siraj in the playing 11 will be good if he recovers fully before January 19. However, Siraj is participating in the practice sessions starting from tomorrow. If he does good then along with Jasprit Bumrah and Shardul Thakur, India looks strong on paper. However, Mohammed Siraj to return in ODIs will be good if he does good in the practice sessions.

KL Rahul is not a bad captain, but without Rohit Sharma it will be tough for him. Virat Kohli opted out from T20 captaincy and so he was told not to lead ODIs too. “We can’t have two white ball captains, one for T20 and another for ODI”. Said BCCI.

India’s likely 11

  1. Ruturaj Gaikwad
  2. Shikhar Dhawan
  3. Virat Kohli
  4. KL Rahul (captain)
  5. Shreyas Iyer
  6. Shardul Thakur
  7. Rishabh Pant
  8. Jasprit Bumrah
  9. Venkatesh Iyer
  10. Ravichandran Ashwin
  11. Mohammed Siraj
