Virat Kohli wanted to create history as Dean Elgar wins home series

Dean Elgar’s wicket, India wanted desperately and Jasprit Bumrah was lucky to dismiss him that way. The Jasprit Bumrah way outside leg delivery nicked Elgar’s bat. Caught easily by Rishabh Pant to put India in the hunt. Best moments at that time were the smiles on all faces including Bumrah, who celebrated a lot. A feeling in the minds of the India players just about to take wickets without giving away 110 runs more. So, Virat Kohli wanted to create history in South Africa, winning a Test series and a first India win at Cape Town.

Yesterday South African captain believed upon how Keegan Petersen bats on an another day and a day to remember. A memorable fourth day for both India and South Africa ended in the way of the Proteas.

South Africa needed 111 runs to win and India needed 8 wickets. A couple of wickets in the first hour in the first session of the third Test was what Virat Kohli wanted. Bumrah and Shami, the two of the best Indian bowlers had posed a big threat to South Africa. Virat Kohli used them more. It was expected that about 80 runs will be scored during the first session. But India did well and Keegan Petersen played a match winning innings after he lost his captain Dean Elgar for 30 runs. Earlier, yesterday Mohammad Shami bowled a beauty to Aiden Markram.

Markram’s wicket was the very first South African wicket to fall. He scored 16 runs. But Jasprit Bumrah took a big wicket, and in fact a huge wicket of Dean Elgar. India fought hard as Virat Kohli wanted to create history. An interesting Test match ended. South Africa won the Cape Town third Test and a home series.

Tough Moments when Virat Kohli did his best…

There were not more tough moments for South Africa in the third series deciding Test match. India had too many. Firstly, a good partnership of about 70 runs between captain Elgar and Petersen in the second innings troubled India. South Africa managed to put a decent total on board in their first innings and scored a total of 210 runs.

After the fall of Dean Elgar for 3 runs and yet another big wicket of Keegan Petersen for 72 runs, Jasprit Bumrah had put India on top in the first South Africa innings. But the South African lower order players played some good cricket. Last 2-3 players added 30 plus runs to take South Africa reach 210. Still India were on a lead of 13 runs. India could have used the advantage of this slender lead.

India could have set a target of 270 runs if one or two players had stayed with Rishabh Pant. Pant played fearless innings and got not anymore support from other players after the fall of Virat Kohli’s wicket. That looked sad even though Rishabh Pant scored a superb century, but he had to return back not out to the pavilion.

South Africa started to chase a not so big target of 212 runs. Initially, there was another tough moment when Ravichandran Ashwin appealed for a leg before. Dean Elgar was given out! Elgar reviewed and the technology favored him as Virat Kohli was left annoyed for few minutes. That was not the technology’s mistake when it’s used then it needs to be accepted.

Petersen dropped!

Keegan Peterson was dropped! Yes an easy catch at slips dropped by Cheteshwar Pujara. Jasprit Bumrah was the bowler, who bowled yet another beauty. Petersen played so many balls of Bumrah and Bumrah knew to keep inviting him to play an outgoing ball. He did so, but poor Bumrah had nothing to say, and he completed the over. Bowlers bowl few balls almost similar in order to bowl a slightly different ball and also come up with the first ball of their next over to pick a wicket. However, Jasprit Bumrah did his best and bowled too many beauties. That was another tough moment for India in the fourth innings when Petersen got a reprieve.

Since then South Africa played clever cricket and played with caution and aggression. No looking back, but it was sad when Virat Kohli wanted to create history, but Dean Elgar wins home series. However, Keegan Petersen’s innings ended when he reached yet another good score. He was bowled by Shardul Thakur. Inside edge onto the stumps! He scored 82 off 113 balls. Well played Petersen!

Shardul Thakur continued to bowl. That’s not enough. South Africa wins home series! India lost second and third Test matches after winning the first Test match. That’s not a good sign!

Virat Kohli won the toss and decided to bat. India scored 223 in their first innings. South Africa nearly reached India’s first innings total to score a bit less, scored 210. India in their second innings managed to score a total of 198. A target of 212 was tough, but South Africa chased it easily.
