India Opening Pair Shakes West Indies

The opening pair played superbly scoring runs quickly for India to bring up a partnership of 119 runs. Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill played with ease before Gill was runout. West Indies got a much needed breakthrough. Gill scored 64 off just 53 balls. Shreyas Iyer walked in. He also played a good knock. He scored 54 off 57 balls. However, India opening pair of Dhawan and Gill played too good to look for a score over 330 runs right from the 6th over onwards.

The 330 run target for West Indies was just enough to win the opening ODI of the 3 match series, comfortably.

India started as favorite but the middle order batsmen could do nothing good as wickets kept on falling. No one after Gill scored more than 30 runs. On the other hand, West India lost their first wicket, Shai Hope caught by Shardul Thakur off Mohammed Siraj. Siraj took the first wicket, an early wicket for India at just 16 runs on the board for West Indies. It looked India was on a driving seat since then.

A Last Ball Win

Kyle Mayers and Sharmarh Brooks fought and played some good cricket. That’s how the match went in favor of West Indies. Momentum needed to be shifted. India then looking for wickets, as Shikhar Dhawan brought Thakur and he once again claimed two wickets in his middle two overs in the middle of the West Indies innings. After 45 overs West Indies were 255 for 6. Siraj picked 2, Shardul picked 2 and Chahal also picked 2 crucial wickets.

The game was on. India still was looking to pick wickets. West Indies needed 38 from the last three overs.

The ODI turned a bit in favor of the West Indies in the end. An interesting match, which India defeated the dangerous looking West Indies by 3 runs.
