ODI overs further reduction as told to ICC

A proper and careful look over the suggestions from few experts, could be a due diligence for ODI cricket. Since T20Is doing wonders, and attracting more crowds a reduction of few overs would be good for the ODI format. Earlier, ODIs were used to be played 60 overs each side, and then reduced to 50 overs each. That decision was too good until the T20Is started pulling more even more crowds. It’s time for ODI overs further reduction to just 10 overs, to make it a 40 overs each side game, to be played not for an entire day.

A full days cricket would not help. The five day Test cricket is still the best in which three sessions played per day. A cautious approach and test of skills will be noticed in Test cricket and develop a player to play good cricket. There’s no comparison to Test cricket, which tests the patience and skills. Test cricket also gaining momentum, but ODI format needs just one change and few other adjustments.

Former cricketer Ajay Jadeja discussing. A screen grab: “fancode” sports.

ICC to accept the best 40 overs each side

ODI overs further reduction would be good for cricket although the records and historic achievements, would be shaken a bit. A 40 over per side ODI match would be finished a bit less than 7 hours or will be of about 6 hours. Depends upon slow or fast over-rate including reviews, strategic breaks, and drinks. The moments of reviews, interesting for the viewers.

The ICC (International Cricket Council) based in the UAE need to accept this proposed white-ball 40 overs each side format. Ajay Jadeja (former Indian cricket player) also wants to not carry forward the day long ODI, which consumes too many hours.

“The idea is good and also Test cricket will remain unchanged, but since T20I cricket introduced, ODI played so less everywhere. So, the reason to reduce just 10 overs would be too good these days. Earlier, ODI was reduced from 60 overs to 55 overs and now 50 overs. So, a further reduction would do no harm”. Said Ajay Jadeja.

This has come to light since Wasim Akram also told that the ODI format has no future. Comparing to the ever-growing T20I format, he would like if some suitable changes be made. Initially, the former Pakistan cricket legend preferred ODI cricket to be scrapped permanently.

It has become a “run-of-the-mill” thing, but he wants the administrators of the game to make suitable changes. This suggestion of cricket legend Wasim Akram was also reported by Indian Express. Changes in powerplays and each bowler bowling 8 overs, would be good enough.
