Cricket fans would like a tournament such as Asia Cup to watch and care that, that should be played anywhere in the World. Also the fans like to see archrivals India and Pakistan competing. A final decision by ACC president Jay Shah to shift Asia Cup from Pakistan to UAE not likely to be reversed. However, PCB chairperson Ramiz Raja indicates by saying: “If India won’t visit Pakistan; then Pakistan will not participate in the ODI World Cup to be played, later in 2023”.
Soon after the ODI Asia Cup 2023, there will be hardly any time left to watch ODI World Cup in India. But enough time for preparation plus the additional experience of playing in Pakistan for Asian teams. The ODI World Cup in India will be played from Oct 2023.
This means a lot of interesting cricket to watch. But India is likely to stick to its decision to not tour Pakistan. BCCI secretary Jay Shah suggested and some reports say, he wants UAE as the host for ODI Asia Cup 2023. India to not tour Pakistan, but would definitely play in the UAE. Ramiz Raja thinks the other way and also sticks to what he said, which looks not as a strong reply. Both India and Pakistan never missed to play in all ICC tournaments.
This will be the first time, but in ACC’s Asia Cup 2023 in which India won’t participate, petty cricket fans. Jay Shah is the president of ACC (Asian Cricket Council).
What cricket fans care
As usual cricket fans from India and Pakistan have difference of opinions. Some of the India cricket fans are happy that Pakistan can’t host a tournament since it’s not safe to play in Pakistan. But at the same time Pakistan cricket fans care much about Pakistan cricket. And they responded by saying top countries visiting Pakistan currently, and so why not India? However, a Bangladeshi cricket fan comes in between and says, “you guys keep fighting, let Bangladesh to host Asia Cup 2023”.
Cricket fans on a large scale want cricket to be watched whether it will be played in Pakistan or anywhere. They also care for the UAE to not host Asia Cup 2023. Many India fans keep saying, “UAE is not the best place to play any tournament because winner of the toss, wins the match”. Few others suggested SENA countries. SENA stands for South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia, where toss will be not crucial.
Finally, why bring politics in sports?
Finally, most of the India cricket fans do not like Pakistan to host any cricket tournament or a bilateral series. The loss of Pakistan would be cheered in India and the loss of India would be cheered in Pakistan. India cricket fans keep mocking at Pakistan and Pakistani cricketers, which, Pakistani cricket fans also do. However, Virat Kohli and few other cricketers from India are most popular in Pakistan. Likewise, in India some Pakistani cricketers have lot of fans.
Shifting Asia Cup from Pakistan to UAE seems good for India since Pakistan will be the loser. On the other hand both countries would lose a lot. Trade between the two neighboring countries, exports and imports can also eliminate poverty to some extent.
Sports is larger than any type of foreign policy. And so it’s good to keep away sports from politics. However, cricket fans petty what India doing and what Pakistan doing in fictional or in their own imagination to target each other’s countries. In the end, people of both countries have similar thoughts. But difference of opinions allow them to mock each other than respecting each other’s sentiments.
