Supreme Court favors BJP by not putting stay on CAA as UP gears up

The Supreme Court today clarified that it will not grant any stay on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Supreme Court in a statement told that without hearing the Center it may refer pleas challenging the validity of the Act. And that will be put over to a larger Constitutional bench.

Bench led by Chief Justice S.A. Bobde heard a batch of 144 pleas challenging the validity of CAA. This includes those filed by the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) and Congress leader Jairam Ramesh. AIMIM of Asaduddin Owaisi as MP of Hyderabad also is against CAA.

Attorney General K K Venugopal told that the government already notified with copies of around 60 pleas out of the 144 petitions. He said the court needs time to respond to all the pleas. However, Senior advocate Kapil Sibal urged the Bench to postpone the exercise of the Acts. He also wanted to keep India free from protests by appealing the court to differ with CAA at present.

The Bench is comprised of Justices S. Abdul Nazeer and Sanjiv Khanna. And it said it has to hear the petitions of Assam and Tripura also. Bench told that the problem with the CAA in these two States is different from rest of the country.

Uttar Pradesh is going ahead with the implementation of CAA without changing any rules. It will be tough time for UP people as BJP to make situation in UP from bad to worse. Thus, UP gears up for another onslaught from BJP.

The Supreme Court finally supported the govt and said it will not put stay on CAA without permission from the center.
