Starting from losing the toss to England, Ireland looked fiery. Ireland played some fearless cricket and since England opted to field first, Ireland wanted to post a good total. They scored more than 50 in the powerplay of 6 overs and built up good little partnerships too. Andrew Balbirnie and Lorcan Tucker played some shots to carry the momentum. It was all not much in the end, but Ireland upsets England to put the T20 World Cup alive.
Gentle push for singles and deft touches for doubles and in between big shots were seen as the terrific batting of the Irish. However, getting bowled out for 157 was not at all in their game plan as England seized the momentum back.
The momentum in the end shifted towards England.
But Ireland Upsets England
England started their bowling attack as usual with Ben Stokes opening the bowling. Stokes was economical, initially but Ireland were seeing the cricket ball as a football. The game was on and every over bowled, disappointed England since then.
Mark Wood bowled well and so were others too. Liam Livingstone was too good and was at one time, on a hattrick. Mark wood also picked 3 wickets, but given away 34 runs off his full quota of 4 overs.
Whatsoever, Ireland were bowled out for 157 off 19.2 overs. In the end, England didn’t allowed Ireland to post good runs on the board. They were looking to score more than 180, but still a fighting total of 157, which played in the minds of the English players just too much.
In the first over of England innings, the Irish were delighted as Jose Buttler was out for naught. England were ZERO for the loss of 1 wicket. Captain Jose Buttler edged the ball and was caught behind by wicketkeeper Lorcan Tucker, which was an outgoing very good ball by Joshua Little. His dismissal put England on the backfoot as Ireland upsets England.
