You may wonder how it would be tough for Australia to win at least a single Test match in India? But if you compare team India players with 18 selected Aussie players, you would know much about what the selection would look like. You’ll say, “oh these 18 selected players aren’t unfit Test players, but would not click” (pick wickets or score runs). Australia visiting India for the last edition of the 4 match Test series – Border-Gavaskar trophy.
The Aussie 18 player Test squad:
- Pat Cummins (Captain)
- Steve Smith (Vice Captain)
- David Warner
- Usman Khawaja
- Marnus Labuschagne
- Alex Carey
- Mitchell Starc
- Mitchell Swepson
- Mathew Renshaw
- Lance Morris
- Josh Hazlewood
- Travis Head
- Ashton Agar
- Scott Boland
- Cameron Green
- Peter Handscomb
- Nathan Lyon
- Todd Murphy
According to Cricket Australia: “An 18-player Test squad has been assembled for the Qantas Tour of India in February and March. Congratulations to everyone selected!” (Sic). You can’t compare Virat Kohli’s recent or all time performance with that of Steve Smith or that of Usman Khawaja’s. Yes, Marnus Labuschagne plays attacking cricket like Rohit Sharma or Virat Kohli. But his innings won’t be that long to help Australia score too many runs on the board.
Can’t even imagine to know how would India bowling attack would be less better than that of Australia’s. They’ve experienced bowlers like Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and captain Pat Cummins, but not much threatening. India’s playing 11 will not be surprising to anyone. India’s sensational Mohammed Siraj, Umran Malik (if picked) and the comeback of Jasprit Bumrah would be threatening for Aussies.
It’s too early to say, which side looks better even on paper. But one could surely say, once India’s squad also announced. The better team, which can play good cricket will win the Test series for sure. All Tests, hopefully would be result oriented.
