Telangana Intermediate results of helpless students creates political games

Telangana Board of Intermediate Education goofed-up Intermediate results leaving thousands of students in the lurch. This time TSBIE gets criticized by BJP as previously Congress party was upset over this issue. Initially the Congress party wanted TS government to sack those involved in managing intermediate education.

Although the newspapers reporting repeatedly with documentary evidence, this issue not have been solved. Protests from students and parents made officials of the Board to play-down the magnitude of the failures. More so, they are trying to blame this discrepancies on a few persons behind the big mistake by accepting. They do accept and admit it’s their responsibility but the culprits they highlighted couldn’t get the due punishments. And they mentioned wrong persons and didn’t bother to take the responsibility on their own. And on the entire management of TSBIE.

Private agency Globareena not necessary

The government’s decision to appoint a committee to examine the discrepancies in the evaluation is too late now. Students of Intermediate in the recent past unequivocally demonstrated protests over the magnitude of failure of the TSBIE.

There are reports that the project of validation and evaluation of answer scripts have been given to a private agency Globareena. The Globareena team didn’t have the requisite experience, necessary expertise and technical wherewithal. Preference of Globareena by Telangana government’s Center for Good Governance amply is suggestive of the hands of the political bigwigs. Further, it is reported that errors have crept into the systems used by Globareena. Thus, they failed to rectify them despite prior intimation by the experts from JNTU.

Further reports claimed that teachers have been given 40 to 65 scripts each day. They had to give the teachers, the stipulated 30 papers. Again this impacted the fair evaluation, which made the students to suffer.

Wrong Evaluation hurt Students

Moreover, the meritorious students bore the brunt of slipshod evaluation, wrong posting of marks, technical snags etc.  Going by the admission of the Intermediate Board today that the marks of over 2006 students have been wrongly posted. This number, as is evident from the protests all across the State, would be much larger because large number of students haven’t even reported. This ironically happens in a State which boasts of being the leader in Information Technology.

Result discrepancy leads to Suicide

Over 16 students have committed suicide so far yet there is no word from the Chief Minister. The Secretary, Intermediate Board calls the reason for suicides ‘mass hysteria’ without even understanding the expression nor its implications. If people are swayed by ‘mass-hysteria’ it’s not that they demonstrate the intensity of the situation?

BJP Demands Probe

Now, the BJP condemns KCR’s attitude. Bluff party catches fire and is forced to compel to raise their voice to get political mileage. To construe that the statement is meant to preempt the probe of the committee and to shield the guilty.

Nearly a Million families across the state left crying by the foul attempts of the Minister of Education. BJP is demanding unconditional apology from the government for traumatizing scores of families.

The BJP also condemns the highhandedness of the police in dealing with the agitated students, parents, organisations and political parties who are there to express solidarity and share the pain of the families of the victims.

The Intermediate exam scam is one of the biggest ones in the newly formed Telangana state. What is at stake is the future of nearly a Million students and their faith in the examination system. Therefore, there is an imperative of tackling the issue seriously and probe thoroughly. If stringent action taken today then similar incidents do not occur in the future.

The BJP therefore demands judicial probe headed by a sitting High Court Judge on the following:

–     Judicial probe to fix the responsibility and punish the guilty.

–     Complete one-time waiver of fee towards requests for recounting, revaluation and copies of the answer scripts etc.

–     Constitution of a special cell to address the grievances of the students and with effect readdress on war-footing.

–     Introduction of comprehensive Third party audit every year to analyse the quality of evaluation.
