Mount Everest mission accomplished by 7 Indian Army Commandos

Seven members of elite NSG Commandos led by Lieutenant Colonel Jay Prakash Kumar successfully scaled Mount Everest. The highest peak on earth was reached on 16th of May 2019 as their mission successfully accomplished.

NSG is an elite Special Force of the country comprising of commandos from Indian Army and Central Armed Police Forces. This is the first such expedition of NSG to Mount Everest. The aim of sending the NSG expedition team to Mount Everest is to instill deep sense of confidence. It’s a pride to develop a strong spirit of undertaking unknown challenges. To develop leadership quality with positive attitude among the individuals and reinforce the motto of “ Sahas Ki Vijay”.

The NSG Everest expedition team comprises of 12 commandos from Indian Army. And the Central Armed Police Forces left New Delhi on 1st April 2019. Out of which seven had successfully reached the peak. The team adopted the South Eastern approach via Solukhumbhu Region of Nepal to scale the Mount Everest. Remaining 5 members are likely to summit on 22 May 2019 as scheduled.

  4. R-I Tsewang Morup
  5. R-II Tashi Stanba
  6. R-II Ramanvir Singh
  7. R-II Johny LT Mawla

The idea to send NSG Commandos to the peak was first conceived by Shri SP Singh, the then DG NSG in 2017. Shri Sudeep Lakhtakia, DG NSG has been instrumental in planning, equipping training and motivating the commandos for this expedition.

Home Ministry, Govt of India supported DG NSG in accomplishing this arduous task. The team is likely to come back after accomplishing the task in 1st week of June 2019. Before undertaking this task, the team had successfully climbed four Mountains.

  1. Mount Nun (7135 M) in Laddakh Region (J&K)
  2. Mount Deo Tibba (6001M) in Himachal Pradesh
  3. Mount Jogin-I (6465 M)
  4. Mount Jogin-III (6116 M) in Uttarakhand

It was as a part of training and acclimatization for high altitude conditions.
