Removing Water from Ears by shaking head can cause Brain Damage

Cornell University’s yet another research claimed kids not be shaken for removing water from their ears. Also Virginia Tech in USA confirmed that shaking heads for removing trapped water from the ears is dangerous.

There’s every chance that one in hundred kids shake their heads or told to so for removing water after shower. However, it can cause complications to the extent that it can damage brain. This study is based upon healthy life for better living and precaution to be better than cure.

The trapped water in the ear canals can cause serious infection and brain damage when head is shaken. Anuj Baskota from Cornell University said, “There was critical acceleration observed experimentally on glass tubes and 3D printed ear canals. It was around the range of 10 times the forces of gravity on infant ear sizes. This could cause damage to the brain”.

In adults, the acceleration is lower due to large ear canals. It was also said that the volume and position of the water in the ear canal changes acceleration needs.

Now what’s the solution for removing water from ear? You should put a few drops liquids like alcohol or vinegar in the ear. This would reduce surface tension force by releasing the water removed from ears.

This study has been learned from the 72nd Annual Meeting of American Physical Society’s Division of Fluid Dynamics. It was held on Nov 23 of Washington State convention Center located in Seattle, USA.

Parents should keep their kids safe from such complications.
