Shocking to the cricket fans around the world to see India out from semi final after a slim chance. If Afghanistan had managed to win against New Zealand using their all top bowlers to perform the best? A question too wise. But Afghanistan could have used their top bowlers early. It wasn’t easy for Afghanistan after coming back strongly to score not even 140. The target looked easy but was a fighting total.
New Zealand lost two wickets, one in the powerplay off Mujeeb Ur Rahman and then Rashid Khan did strike. It looked as if Rashid Khan could take two more wickets, but Kiwis cautiously batted without bothering about the required run-rate.
Kane Williamson made everything look easy and played a good innings as Afghanistan’s one of the best bowler Mujeeb also played after missing couple of matches. One against Scotland and the other against India. Mujeeb took a good wicket and Rashid Khan too. But that was not enough as New Zealand chased cleverly to keep India out from semi final. India was hoping an Afghanistan victory but the best top four teams played good cricket to be in semi final.
The top four cricket teams currently are England, Australia, Pakistan and New Zealand. Then there will be top two teams to play the final. The winner of the final would be the world champion.
India have to return home after playing the super 12’s last match against Namibia. South Africa, West Indies from the other group of six teams went home. Afghanistan also going home after some poor performances, one against India and then against New Zealand. The match was played at Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed stadium in a noisy atmosphere. So many supporters of Afghanistan including India’s fans were disappointed after Afghanistan lost to the Kiwis.

Afghanistan lost 3 early wicket right in the powerplay of 6 overs. Also within 6 over Afghanistan lost their opening pair and then immediately their number 3 batter. Hazratullah Zazai (2 off 4), Mohammad Shahzad (4 off 11), and Rahmanullah Gurbaz (6 off 9 balls) went back. In the 10th over Gulbadin Naib was bowled by Ish Sodhi. Yet, Afghanistan had fought back reasonably to score some quick runs, but not in the death overs.
A score of 140 was possible for Afghanistan but they scored 124/8. However, this time Afghanistan after winning the toss, chose to bat first. Earlier, against India, Afghanistan opted to field first.
New Zealand tried hard to pick couple of more wickets in the middle overs and at the death. The end of the story of this match between Afghanistan and New Zealand made India out from semi final.
The semi finals would be played between New Zealand and England. Pakistan and Australia. A tough competition for the top four teams would be interesting to watch.
