Not many changes would be seen in the second test – India vs South Africa at Wanderers on Jan 3, 2022. A winning combination sometimes also needs changes. Thakur will be dropped because of his poor performance as an allrounder. He didn’t do good with the bat and also with the ball. It’s also likely that India will rope in another batsman, Shreyas Iyer or Wriddhiman Saha.
Batting would be strong and it would help India score more runs because in the first Test India scored not many runs in their two innings. A batter coming in place of Thakur will be too good. Umesh Yadav or Ishant Sharma would not be a better replacement. Most of the South African pitches support bowlers, and another way to attack, will be to go with an extra batsman. An extra batsman always helps in Test cricket. So far, India has won one of the three Test match series, and the series is still alive for South Africa to come from behind and win the remaining two Test matches.
India looks for 2-0 or 3-0 as South Africa desperate to comeback to make the series – 2-1, winning the remaining two Tests for South Africa will be an uphill task.
Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami, Mohammed Siraj and Ravichandran Ashwin performed, but Shardul Thakur looked not so threatening. Ashwin picked two wickets in the end and that turned out to be the last over of the first Test.
