Whatever business we’re planning to do we must know about the costs of the products that we manufacture or cook.

For a restaurant business products are those which are cooked.

And better to understand how much they cost you to assemble the food items vis-à-vis the food products cost you after they get cooked.

There are various businesses of manufacturing and preparing food products. Let’s discuss about food products for starting a restaurant business.

You just need to be aware of the pricing in the menu, where your food items listed. If you want to start a Chinese cuisine, then how many items you need to cover?

Let’s say about 10 (cooked) food items. Listed are the items below for example:

  1. Chicken soft noodles
  2. Chicken spicy noodles
  3. Veg soft noodles
  4. Chicken fried rice
  5. Veg fried rice
  6. Chicken fried rice
  7. Prawn noodles
  8. Prawn Gravy
  9. Fried prawns
  10. Plane rice or bread

Working upon the above 10 items, it requires you to understand first how much are your expenses to prepare the items. For example, it costs you 100 INR (100 Indian Rupees or about $1.35); inclusive of all the hard work then what will be your selling price for chicken soft noodles?

Very simple just add 5% on behalf of your staff expenses. 5% on behalf of marketing and 10% miscellaneous expenses. Therefore, it adds to the selling price to be 120 INR but you cannot sell the chicken soft noodles at 120 INR ($1.85). Instead sell the chicken soft noodles at a price of about 140 INR ($1.93).

Henceforth, follow the chicken soft noodle pricing procedure for all your other 9 items.

Remember the better the pricing the better the sale. Hence, you need not worry about your low prices but worry about sales.

Pricing should be taken care of to start a business after deep study over business management.

Thus, all the 10 listed menu items should be priced perfectly as such thinking to benefit your customers to taste your food items as good food at low cost. Hence, it will also then benefit your business and your business will grow.

You should start with low priced menu, then later on you can increase the rates as per your expenses. 

Staff (1):

Here, you need to conduct the interviews and think and deliberate to hire a good staff.

Marketing (1):

As far as I know, in India and in many other countries the marketing is done manually.

This means that you need to distribute leaflets in the surrounding areas of your restaurant.

For this, you need to give your restaurant a good attractive name and a good look.

The board at the entrance of your restaurant should be bright with lights and a nice name. You can start with the names like Spice Town (Chinese Cuisine), Mother’s Recipe or Food King and so on.

You can also start your marketing strategy on the day you start your restaurant to function.

This day is the inauguration day. Thus, you need to spend some money to invite a VIP from a nearby area and make the restaurant get the benefit through the VIP’s speech.

People will definitely come and have a look. Remember, don’t just provide free food even on the first day of your restaurant, which’s the inauguration day.

Just make an effort to speak to the people and be polite and sell your cooked food items right from your first business day.

Breakeven Period (1):

Almost every restaurant goes through the breakeven period. It’s usually of three to six months and more depending about the way you do your marketing and provide your services.

Some restaurants start making profits right from their first month of the start of their business.

You should consider a moderate six months of breakeven for your newly started business as a first timer.

What you’ve invested on food business is nothing to do with your budget. How you manage with how much budget you’ve matters a lot.

It’s the business feeling that you should be proactive. You have spent on renovation and on rental deposits to marketing and furniture plus kitchen items etc.

Now, you feel what you’ve spent should be in your favour. How? The reason is you want an early success to your business.

That’s not an excuse and you need to build your business and keep patience.

Once you start learning about business management, you need to keep in mind that soon you’re going to prepare a project report.

That’s the reason why customers always give their ideas to the new businesses. However, food business is pleasing customers in all aspects. The relation between you and your customers should be not just to keep providing them their favourite food but listening to them for a long term relationship and that will benefit you through their word of mouth publicity.

Let me guide you more about how the management of budget can make you benefit with your efforts to understand how much you should spend every week or so. Let’s read the following again and discuss about budget in this part as Budget 2.

Your bank account as you are the one and only owner of your business should be properly maintained. Food business, if it’s small scale then there’s no need for partnership.

You need to maintain every day payments to the grocery and other daily payments including your staff requirements.

Thus, your budget for the food business shouldn’t hurt you. If you want to start a food business with $20,000, then you need to have in your bank account a sum of $30,000.

You’ll fail to maintain your business if you take bank loan so early. Remember, banks provide you loans but it’s not advisable to go for loans.

The interest rates these days are so high that you’ll fail to maintain your bank loan payments.

Suppose as discussed earlier that you started the business with $20,000 and still $10,000 are with you.

Then it’s good for the business that you should utilize your money carefully. Forget about relaxing for any reason.

Avoid drinking and other bad habits that might hurt you later. Budget is the reason to invest money carefully and diligently.

According to the budget you need to work out solutions for any mishap that happens in your business”.

For example, your water bill hasn’t been paid by the previous person, who was also the tenant to your owner. Likewise, electricity bill comes up shocking you in the same manner as the water bill shocked you.

Thus, you need to cope up with these setbacks by having some money of about 50% of that you’ve invested already in your bank account. So that, you’ll not be troubled with financial problems in your restaurant business.

Your friends and relatives will keep you irritating by asking you frequently about how’s your business going on. You should be unhurt over all the circumstances that you face.

Yet, to take up the challenge, you should manage with your budget and keep yourself floating not in the dark.

If for example, you have INR 1.5 million to start a food business, then from it, spend accordingly on various necessities of your food business. 20% of money should be spent on renovation including banners and interior. Another 20% for chimney and kitchen items including backups such as invertors etc. 10% on marketing and the remaining 50%, you should keep handy and ready for further unexpected expenses.   

Health Fitness:

Fitness of yourself and the staff should be taken care of.

Staff, usually becomes sick but not so frequently that you need to take care a lot. However, it’s required that you should learn cooking from your staff either directly or indirectly by observing how they’re cooking.

This is because you can work better on your health fitness but your staff cannot. So, if you know preparing the food items, then as a master cook you’ll be always ready to keep your restaurant open even if your staff doesn’t come for a day or two.

Your health fitness should mean everything to you whilst you’re experiencing the first food business, which’s tricky.

Chapter 4

In this chapter, I will make you read about the example of running business by a successful businessperson.

Let us for example call him by the name Johnny.

Johnny has all the abilities and experience of working as a software engineer for 5 years.

And surprisingly, he doesn’t want to be a part of the rat race.

So, he thinks about starting his own business to be happier working under no one.

He thinks of doing a profitable business and he learns that food business is one such profitable business.

This idea comes to him because people want to fulfil the necessities of food, clothing, and shelter. So, here comes food first.

Johnny was happy and starts a restaurant business in India’s southern part. He carefully knows that taste matters the most to the people and that too at low cost.

His ability to manage the staff was too good and he motivates the staff as he was used to be motivated by his manager in his previous software company.

Restaurant business pleases him too much and he starts to earn more and then falls prey to wine.

Every night he used to get sound sleep and then get up early. So, as suggested by his friend he joins him after closing his restaurant and drinks a lot until he gets sound sleep.

However, he gets up early and works hard because of the enjoyment during every night with some other bad habits too. The wine makes him get up early.

Soon, Johnny’s staff notices that their boss drinks and they start disrespecting him.

Angry Johnny strikes the button of firing and hiring.

The staff leaves and new staff comes in. Restaurant works as usual but some regular customers vanish.

Losses in the business occur as the customers used to like the previous staff and their service and then Johnny gets upset.

The process of firing and hiring resumes and it keeps to go on and on.

The restaurant loses their reputation and it saddens Johnny as he was unable to control his staff. His drinking habit makes him intoxicated even in the day time and he loses respect and finally his wealth.

Thus, drinking kills his business and he was never able to lift himself up.

Johnny then tries hard to find a job but couldn’t do so because of the gap in between and that was a bit too much and no company accepts him as their employee.

His role as a software engineer ends to make him a businessman and his business is now no more because of his bad habits.

Hence, he loses hopes to survive with his drinking habit as he realizes this, a couple of months later.

Johnny quits drinking and other bad habits and starts a very small stall and runs this very small business on the road singlehandedly.

He gets attention from the people and he starts earning again.

After about couple of years, Johnny with enough money in his hand and that too by quitting all bad habits, he starts the same previous business.

Learned from his mistakes, Johnny discovers himself as the most successful restaurant owner and spreads the franchisees in various cities across India and his business grows on large scale and he becomes a big businessman in the restaurant industry.

Chapter 5

To be capable of running a restaurant business, you need to have an intelligent mind and good communication skill.

Moreover, your memory should be as good as a psychiatrist.

To enhance your memory, you don’t need any medicines at all. However, you can work upon it with some daily procedures.

The procedures should be taken care of everyday and practiced as a daily routine. 

For example, you start your day with bed tea and speak about your business to someone near to you while having tea. After that you take shower and do breakfast and then get ready to go and see your business.

All these things do happen step by step as you interact with customers and manage the staff while sitting at the cash counter.

The time to close the restaurant later on will keep you busy and you’re through and come back home.

It doesn’t matter whether you have a family or living as single but something matters a lot when you go to bed.

When you hit the bed just recollect all the things that kept you busy and idle, respectively. Everything you need to think about right from your breakfast to morning tea and much more that happens as step by step on an hourly basis.

Keeping this in mind and about next day’s plan about what you need to do, you should go to sleep. This should be your daily routine.

Thus, your memory power can increase every day and will keep you proactive to take care of your business.

Further, you’ll think about franchisee options for your business and you can manage with it smoothly.

Never take tea after 7 PM (19 hours) and be conscious and take hourly breaks during the time you’re managing your business.

Hourly breaks should be like talking to someone or engaged having some fresh sugarless juice and before 7 PM (hours) take tea and juice and do a have little lunch during the afternoon time of the day.

After you established as a better businessman, you can give yourself a lot of time and you can manage your business from wherever you’re.

The issue is to create an atmosphere around you, which not only can give you peace but happiness too.

There are lot of activities you can do, which are available in every part of India.

Participate in yoga classes and join gym and swimming for some fun and get yourself out of the hard work that you’ve already done to setup your restaurant.

Think more about expanding your business so that you can setup some short term goals and work on to achieve those.

This means that an ant carries something upwards, which can weigh more than the ant itself. This way you too can lift your business to new heights by working upon it systematically.

No matter the initial losses to your restaurant can make you upset but now this will not happen even for a layman.

A zero knowledgeable and zero experienced person in restaurant business can do amazing profits to his or her food business if he or she prepares well and looks forward only.

There’s been these three friends; George, Tom, and John as researchers and experiments’ performers and they always seen at work with their fun filled and shocking days of living life with thrills as per their adventures.

And they feel happy over each other’s achievement and get involved to encourage each other on the whole to keep things easy to live.

They eat less and work more as such their patience counts being restless at times.

In group moments, the three together discuss a lot. While their funny lives lead them to some more intriguing activities that they create and do.

They are the performers and they do perform well in their busy schedule.

The factors in the making of a giant ant though relate with one of the friends but these three friends are always there together to get noticed or whatever they do they all take the credit and they all keep believing that they are responsible for what they think and do, altogether.

They spend each day in such a way that there’s another outcome waiting for them for making things to happen as they like.

They do their work with experiments and adventures all the way to get something out of nowhere.

And they choose to think and work in their own scientific fantasy world.

Here, all goes well being together in their small home with one big room that belongs to no one but for study purpose.

“George you don’t bother at all”, Says Tom looking at John and continues, “you must feel to get things going for us”.

To this George, doesn’t understand what Tom is saying, and thus, its special feeling to John to explain George; what Tom meant, “listen George you do sleep late in the night than we both and that’s the reason Tom wants to know and also you get up early”.

George’s Drink Does The Trick

George by allowing them to relax and says I’m fond of creating some extra energetic drinks and I do drink some times to check how they taste and that’s the reason that I feel active sometimes man!”.

The fantasy world seems real when on scientific way the process builds up in such a way that the more you get entertained with the work you like, the more you feel the necessity of doing work all the time, but there’s much more to do besides being busy all the day.

The three genius, crazy persons being always alert with a mind-set they truly have with them to make them capable thinkers as they have ability of being world class researchers, and that they live freely and are independent to work on their own and keep their fingers crossed to build their career and become famous and earn money a lot. 

One could point over to find who may be the get going persons to make things happen and there appears none other than the three always available experts, having no health problems; George, John, and Tom as they been used to be called by their unfriendly neighbours. And they do get excited to work out something creative and they discuss a lot over each of their projects, and they live each day to be their most happening day.

They end up the day by not sleeping side by side in the night but their beds are arranged in such a way that they cannot able to discuss together while at sleeping time, but always these two Tom and John know that while they feel sleepy, George gets up and does some typical activity and sleeps late but gets up early; leaving a question mark in his two friends’ minds.

They belong to different backgrounds and were drop outs from their school because they did lot of experiments in their the then St Andrews school, where they were found guilty for troubling the school’s students and were expelled by the school authorities and there on they were kicked out of their homes as well and they together found a new place with the jungle nearby and started living with some frustrations but not too much they miss their families.

Yet they need patience as they plan things almost being together and George has other sort of thoughts that keeps him thinking and his sleeping cycle is quite different.    

Work Approach

George being at the age of 23 thinks not about his future and neither Tom and John, and all three not yet reached 25 years of age or completed their silver jubilee but they keep working hard for what matters to them as even they don’t know what the big occasion in their lives could be.

And they only know each other as of with superior talent that they possess and feel that one day they may get world famous and achieve the rewards they deserve if they keep working and live a life busy with experiments and adventures, but unfortunately not studying in school.

Their life makes sense to make them feel interesting and they do live happily without much to earn for their survival and they keep their life busy and to none other they bother.

 This keeps their neighbours on high alert as to know and find out what these long haired idiots are up to.

The people around these three feel pity about these three and underestimate them by pointing at the three’s body language, which looks not so abnormal.

It’s because they’re together and on a mission and so their neighbours find them not as easy going people and avoid interacting with them.     

One day, during a sunny afternoon, George was feeling curious to know the outcome as he was feeding his dog something different than the dog’s usual meal and he realised that what he provided his pet was nothing but a magical potion made with lot of thought and well prepared to make an aura of an activity for those who consume and it’s to say that’s made with some herbs mixed with ants and well grinded.

And that already he knew something going to happen in an hour or two as the dog finished his meal, which was made for an experiment to see what’s going to happen to the dog?

Soon after an hour the colour of the eyes of the dog changed to green, and dog feels energetic and jumps and dances without any music played at that moment, and hence George informs this in detail to his two friends, and they feel curious and they want to know how that happened.

George’s Drink is Magic Potion

He says he made a magical potion with herbs and ants and fed the dog and soon he noticed the change.

So, without thinking too much Tom and John come to keep George free as they take with them the green eyed dog to the jungle and leave the dog there.

Keeping cool, both the friends of George feel peaceful now because if anyone see the dog’s eyes gotten changed; then, they would for sure do inquire and so they left the dog in the jungle and tell George to keep things simple and this time they sleep after George hits the bed and snores.

At midnight, both of them see George sleeping so they start to notice what juice George made that changed the dog’s appearance and behaviour and there upon they examine further and sleep late at nights for few weeks.”

(It’s taking too much of your time to read on but I think it’s interesting to read so let’s know the end…).

Finally, just skim through the last part of the book “The Giant Ant”.

Where after a lot of hassle and tussle things get even worse.

Three of them now start feeding the potion made by George to an ant and the ant transforms slowly bigger and bigger.

The ant then breaks the cage and comes out.

Hurriedly, the three friends lock the giant ant in their big room.

The ant keeps on growing and then it breaks the door of the big room and flees away.

After that there it was seen the chaos of disasters the giant creature makes.

Many people get killed by the giant ant and the ant swallows what comes in her way and grows more big.

(I think you understood the story of “The Giant Ant” so let’s finish it to discuss more about restaurant food business.).

“They (George, Tom and John) call the central force rescuing squad of the government and report but they in awe forget to take a picture of the giant ant.

They felt at that moment that they caught the giant ant. The news keeps circulating in seconds as many people feel relaxed and these three friends report about giant ant that they actually caught the creature to make money as much as they wished to be millionaires and live their rest of the life full of enjoyment.

There, the leaders and police officers, and the central care authorities agree to pay the three; the promised handsome money as their prize money for showing them the location, where the giant ant is.

Tom was told to make a call by both George and John, as people from about 2000-meter distance watch the giant ant and still feel the rounds of awe in their heart, mind and soul.

As soon as the phone starts ringing and Tom tries to explain in detail and there as well incidentally nobody dares to take the picture of the giant ant, and thereby the call gets connected and Tom speaks and as he feels joy and shares with the other two that they are going to become rich in a day or two.

However, the perfumed potion with rotten herbs was made in quick time and the giant ant feels nice to smell it and as it was told a bit earlier that the giant ant swallows the perfumed potion along with the bowl like bottle, and that creates pain in the giant ant’s large stomach, and the huge creature makes sound and people go more far away and then the size of the giant ant keeps reducing and the three friends realising something’s going on a loss and that’s the loss of weight of the giant ant and in about 12 minutes the giant ant gets reduced to a normal tiny ant and the three friends as such they get shocked.

Feeling their hard work gotten wasted as the central government squad after making the visit, thinks that they get fooled over by these three friends, and they in no time arrest them and put them in the jail and listen not to their explanations.

Hopes Remain Hopes

The people around there also cannot get convinced that there once lived a giant ant and they were far away and as such think someone created something strange, later on few eye witnesses approach to the police that they do see the giant ant and these three are innocents but the police says them to show the proof as at least a picture of giant ant and that’s not possible, and hence a sad end to the three genius researchers, and scientists that’s what all happened had happened not in their favour as they used to do research work as their hobby, and they still were in jeopardy as court sentences them life-term imprisonment as their neighbours as well complained that these three used to make loud sounds and they’re responsible for what all happened and they made terror and mixing spice in their speech the neighbours also tell the police that these three used to make bombs and that’s why all havoc and disaster happened was noticed and the three were responsible for the killings of many people as well.

In the jail George explains to both his friends that they henceforth are responsible even though not directly but indirectly.

That’s just to make grow the giant ant and leave the ant out of their house and they must believe that the killings there on happened because of not that they did hard work to make a tiny ant as the giant ant but unfortunately, they didn’t let the government know when the ant kept on growing and there upon they are for sure the culprits and they have to accept the fact and also to think that they are absolute geniuses and that their superiority should remain between them and shouldn’t be disclosed.”

Thus they deserve to be called as the best scientists, yet they without proper approach to their brilliant work, they end up in jail. But, in restaurant business you’ll not end up in jail for sure but you’ll be bankrupt.

That should be avoided and for this concern of your bankruptcy I will discuss more about restaurant business.

Chapter 7

Restaurant business has lot of potential and that should be considered to start such business.

Providing good food at low cost might not only make sense to keep customers impressed but also mouth publicity can benefit the business.

Word of mouth in restaurant business spreads and makes the restaurant successful.

Thus, it’s not just basics I need to discuss with you all readers of this book, but we will go in depth.

In depth about running a good food business that can be helpful to you to achieve great success.

A family of four when visits your restaurant then they should be happy even after having the tasty items that you provide with their just few bucks of the bill.

Round about a minimal amount of bill can make families feel good after having good food and not to mention about the low cost of your food items again. Thus, the families become your regular customers.

It’s just not about regular customers’ game for restaurant business as you need to provide catering services too. Win the orders for marriage and other functions and provide them a nice vibrant atmosphere at your restaurant or supply food items to their function locations.

Once or twice a week or on the weekends, just come up with buffet dinners and keep customers get full use of their money they spend to taste all your food items.   

Bring in one or two new food items every month and make the people know that you’re making updates in your menu.

If some space is available near your restaurant that belongs to you then give that space for rent fruit juice centre or to any other similar business.

Allow the employees not to clean all the tables once customers leave so that new customers if find the restaurant empty they’ll go back. But, if they find the tables with food already consumed there, believe that some others had something right before they entered the restaurant. Thus, they will sit over the tables which are clean and feel comfortable thinking as if the restaurant is doing fine. So, let them be seated and send your best employee to take order from the new customers or it’s better that you can by yourself approach them.

Don’t put any electronic entertainment like television or music recorder as customers need to listen just the sound of cooking. Chinese items make good sounds while they get cooked. So, in the front area keep few food items necessarily should be cooked there and the appetising smell will allow the people walking through the footpath to notice.

Sitting inside customers will give way to other customers by their own way as you haven’t put any entertainment inside for them to sit for long time. These days’ mobile phone is always the mobile entertainment for most of the people. So, don’t waste your money to entertain your customers. Families, often don’t prefer to listen music and watch television while eating.

Having said, it’s sensible to talk to the kids with pleasing manners so as to impress the family customers, who bring kids with them. You need to express your best communication skill while doing your duty to serve the customers at your best.  

Some customers get annoyed with your staff activities. For example, if one of your employee uses his left hand to keep a food item their plates. This small mistake by your employee will lead to a major argument and can lead to disasters. So, every day conduct meetings with your staff before the restaurant gets cleaned up to serve the first customer.

Always, if any incident happens such as your staff been let down by the customers then do not be angry over your staff alone. Rather, you shouldn’t be angry at all and come in between to explain both parties in a better way. You should stand in support of both parties and you should make not your staff feel better while your customer gets hurt. When things come to normal and your staff seems that you care a lot about the customers and before he or she thinks something bad about you, you should explain that it’s a minor mistake from your employee but the customer made an issue over it and calm him or her down.

Let’s not forget that for a business the customer is like a king and he or she can benefit you or harm your business. Hence, it’s such that you should favour the customers firstly in their battles with your staff.

Chapter 8

Apart from business management and working with and leading people, you need to focus on quality management a lot.

Just destroy or put the food item in the dust bin, if it not meets the quality that you prefer. Guide about quality management to your staff. Your staff should be aware that higher in quality food items matter a lot. Maintaining quality as you run the restaurant should be the most important pillar of success of the food business.

Customers should find no change in your food items whenever they visit your restaurant. Regular customers spread their word of mouth publicity as they find your restaurant being their favourite. If you maintain quality standards, then your half battle has been won as the best businessperson of food business.

Quality is one such subject that we need to discuss a bit more. Whenever the quality of your food item does reach your customer at any day to disappoint them then it’s the game over. You’ll be then get bad feedbacks and to refocus on with the quality of food items will be touch difficult. It’s so because once the quality is not maintained then it’s hard to beat your competitors.

You should aware that many restaurants have issues with quality whether they might be near to your restaurant or far away but your task is just cut out. No compromise in quality, whatsoever makes your restaurant stand on four pillars. The first comes quality, then ambience, then comes concern of hygienic food and so on. The fourth pillar is ability to keep motivating your staff to work as such they need to give their 100%.

When customers start a conversation with you and discuss something then answer them politely. Just keep answering to them in few words for every question they ask. Don’t lengthen your conversation and speak for a longer time. Try to be specific. The more you tell them your story the lesser impact of your reputation may happen. To keep your restaurant’s reputation, you should make the conversation shorter. So, that the next time it will continue when that customer visits your restaurant again.       

While you should be smiling when taking to your customers and should also be to the point and be specific. Your approach should be as if you want to talk more to the customer but your body language should be like you are short of time. You cannot tell your customer that you’re busy but the intention should be there to make them understand your situation.

It’s not that of concern that even if you talk less, your listening should be better. This means that even if you can’t listen the story of your customer while speaking only few words then there’s nothing to be concerned about. Customers understand your situation as you keep behaving in good manners. They’ll then leave you and come again to find you. That’s the point regular customers start piling up.

You should not leave the staff talking to your customers for a long time. Interfere in between by assigning some work to them with a polite way of calling your employee’s name. Assign them some work and make them busy so that your customers won’t mind. This is important because your staff doesn’t know what to say to your customers when they’re just waiters or cooks but not your managers.

It’s obvious that for every food business, customers are the ones given more priority even if they look beautiful, confused or ugly. The approach to understand what’s in their mind is not your business. You should not keep staring at them even if they’re pretty or in any case of any looks. The importance should be given to lift your business up.

Customers do start a fight in your restaurant because they come being drunk as the food in your restaurant used to be at low cost when already it was discussed earlier. The drunk people spend less on food and will be your customers to spoil your party of good food at low cost. So, do not allow drunk people to take the seats in your restaurant. Just don’t bother the outcome be ready to call the police. By never allowing drunk people in your restaurant you’ll gain not only the reputation but the favour from family customers. Thus, it’s important to be strict at times.

Some groups of friends on a regular basis visit your restaurant and have food. You should know and keep in mind that what food items they prefer. Keep one particular waiter talking to the regular groups of customers so that they’ll be happy to see him or her provide service nicely.

Your main role should be not only as the billing person but you should assign yourself different roles. You can be as helping to your staff when there’s lot of rush. So, your role will be just not to sit idle even for a couple of minutes at the cash counter. You know the restaurant might look busy but not billing continues to be busy as customers keep on coming. Here, you need to pack the food at least for your restaurant’s parcel service. Further, don the role as a waiter as well and if for any other help do support your cooks too.

If you provide various party celebration functions at your restaurant, then be prepared to give discounts. And on the other hand a portion of space in your restaurant’s seating area should be kept available for your regular customers. Other regular customers will not disturb you when they see a party is going on and they will come definitely on different occasion. Build relations with your regular customers as smooth as you can.

The reasons are their staff has been managed well and the cooks are the best and food is tastier. When I visited BARBEQUE NATION in Hyderabad, I found myself very comfortable even though I was all alone to have some food for fun. The waiters there, didn’t make me feel like I’m alone while other customers have groups. I enjoyed whatever I ordered and got it in a time what the waiter told me. I was impressed and left the restaurant after paying the bill and with some tip to the waiter, who served me.

BARBEQUE NATION in Hyderabad is famous not only for the taste and quality maintained there. But, they have everything for every occasion as such the staff needs to address the customers while holding a mike and do speak through the mike over and out because of the heavy rush.

The picture above is of one such days of the festival in BARBEQUE NATION. And festival was called as ‘Let’s Chilli Fest’. People were gathered there when they knew about the festival with some leaflets handed to them prior to the chilli festival at the malls nearer to Banjara Hills. Chapter 9

In this chapter, which’s the last one of this book, we will know about six characters to begin reading a business story that might be useful to discuss. For example, the main three male characters are named as Nishu, Bishu, and Zishu.  Let’s read for a reason to know business failure, success and achievement as per the script.

As usual during a Sunday morning, Zishu and Nishu were together and were seen chatting with each other, and there in the dining table Bishu was about to speak to his Father, who was reading the Sunday newspaper, right there. There comes the tea as breakfast is already done. Kerala’s conservative Indian family believes that it’s good always to take tea break after the breakfast, and after lunch and after dinner. That’s the exact time 9 hours, where they take tea on a sunny Sunday morning brought from the kitchen, hot cups carried on a tray by their mother and offered at first to their father and so on.

His dad listens to what Bishu says and carefully asks few questions, such as what Bishu wants to do in the next few years as he is jobless and his dad is dependent upon the pension he gets and saves some money from it and keeps it on hold as his youngest and dearest son could use it.

Bishu is the youngest and keeps on convincing his dad that he wants to do hotel business and thereon he needs some investment to be done as such his two brothers think always that Bishu is useless and keep on degrading him as they’re doing white colour jobs and needs no further lapses as they believe that doing job is far better than doing a business of whatever type as against to what Bishu thinks and they oppose to Bishu’s thoughts. Nishu and Zishu are first and second sons while Bishu is the third and the youngest.

Sunday’s summary always ends with Bishu gets the reply from his father in every hour to keep patience and do enough study and research before he could start a nice business and that’s the game not over yet.

Feeling exhausted after television, newspaper go through, and being online both his elder brothers Zishu and Nishu go out for an hour out from their home and spend some time outside and Bishu was left alone at home as their parents sleeping time starts thereon. And he silently keeps his thoughts of his business plan upon his diary and keeps writing more and more with lots of detail.

Feels aloof being alone all the time and spends some time every day with his girlfriend Tina. Bishu’s intentions are as clear as rain water and he means that he needs his life go not wasted thinking too much and creating opportunities to talk to his father during their breakfast and he gets always hurt every day by his two elder brothers. Moreover, upon their advice and interference in his plans, he thinks his brothers currently busy in their own world, who cannot build his career and cannot do good for him. It’s eventual that in a way, which relates to every day discussions between him and Tina.

Next day happens to be the busy Monday and Bishu spends his time with his girlfriend Tina, who also finds Bishu helpless and suggests him to study business management first.

Bishu to stop talking about business plans with her he starts teasing her and they are there up above on the fourth floor, where Tina loves to have ice cream, and in that corner, they sit together.

They get some attention from two other guys sitting there as well near to them and also they too have to enjoy so they laugh upon Tina and say to her something unacceptable and Bishu gets animated and shouts and drags them out from the ice cream parlour.

The Anger Noticed

This behaviour of Bishu disliked by Tina and she says Bishu as useless and leaves him without adding more words to lengthen the time spent with Bishu and she reaches her home this time early and Bishu was punished by the ice cream parlour owner, who alerts the police upon Bishu’s nasty behaviour and that leaves Bishu marked as nothing young man and his vision and goals get tarnished as his father comes to know about the incidence and he gets angry on Bishu and says, “a businessman needs always to keep patience otherwise his business flops, so my son you are a no fit as a businessman and I’m not going to help you settle down doing business on losses and it’s better to do some job”. Thus, these words of his father and the word from his girlfriend Tina hurts him a lot.

Some Relief

Bishu, released by the police on the words of his father and mother, feels helpless and the words from his two brothers also hurts him a lot and he slowly packs his clothes and does all the packing to carry a single luggage with him and off he leaves his hometown and there he in Mumbai takes a single room in a lodge at Borah Bazar near to CST and tries to read in full what all he wrote in his diary and having not enough funds with him, he starts a business without much investment and soon, he gets a call from his mother and he answers the call the final time with sweet words to convince his mother that he’s feeling better and then he removes the sim card from his phone and throws it away.

Tina cannot believe it, and his brothers don’t bother about, and only thing that keeps his father happy that his son is grown up and his mother keeps praying for him.

The doorbell rings, and Nishu opens the door during rainy Sunday morning and a beautiful, gorgeous, and vivaciously slim lady stands outside waiting for the door to get opened and Nishu in front of the opened door was clueless to know why this lady looking worried while standing?

He inquires about her before she bursts out in tears, and all four gathers around her to know their fifth family member Bishu’s girlfriend’s love for Bishu, and that they being clueless again about where’s Bishu, they try to make her feel a bit better by offering some water to drink. Henceforth, knowing the honesty and all skills and talents of Bishu from Tina, father of three sons, feels awestruck but unable to find Bishu to help him when he finally agrees to do something for Bishu.

Sad Departure

But things may not be the same as been thought upon even though he agrees to Bishu’s simple and well organized business law. It was narrated then by Tina about Bishu’s plan of doing a business in his own way, which he told her. Thus, Tina was told to calm down, and she was assured that when Bishu’s back he will be definitely helped to establish his choicest business.

Tina is amused and keeps thinking as why she left Bishu when he fought for her?

However, in Mumbai, Bishu finally finds a small corner at the road side near to CST and starts selling sandwiches, and he gains from it some and loses some as there he needs to pay the daily rent of the spot just about 100 rupees per day and there’s no loss to him that he finds and was happy but he also finds no profits.

He works hard for nothing he could save as he cannot make profits with what he sells and there on he keeps himself busy and unable to increase his menu and thereon he lives a life where he finds his small business as hand to mouth and one fine day he buys a sim card and inserts it into his phone and calls his father. To his shock, his mother answers the call and she weeps to know it’s Bishu and she says, “Come back my son, come back home, your father is no more, he died last week”. Awestruck Bishu upon his mother’s call leaves Mumbai and on the way to his hometown feels in jeopardy.

Wonderful ideas Script Continues

As soon as Bishu enters the home after it gets opened by his mother, he finds his two brothers watching a movie on television, and he was helpless and scolds them by saying, “Our father passed away a few days back I was not aware about the news but you two were there and still you guys instead of doing good deeds to ask the Almighty to rest his soul in peace; enjoying your time by watching movies on television!”.

That’s not well said by Bishu, and he was slapped hard by his mother for his misbehaviour over his elder brothers and she bursts into tears and hugs his son, Bishu and they find themselves together alone as both Zishu and Nishu leaves the home for a while and till they come back there’s a long chat that goes on and on between mother and youngest son. Soon their doorbell rings and mother opens to see Tina and she finds Bishu with his mother standing as Bishu’s almost hiding and was surprised but not too much because she anticipated that way Bishu might come to see when his father was sick and if not he would be there when his father died and here this happens and she hugs Bishu, who looks very lean to her in fact too much skinny and dark.

Days passes by, and after couple of months Tina tries to convince Bishu that he only needs investment and nothing else to start a business. She wants to involve her father for starting up a good business and she says already she had a long chat with her father and suggests Bishu to get help from her father as her father already agreed to.

Bishu with all his knowledge and efforts starts a new business without any opening ceremony or marketing. His investor being Tina’s father and his goal to success are his food items tasted by customers in his restaurant on account of word of mouth marketing and the few customers that come everyday piles up and many people become regular customers.

No Loss No Profit

But, however the business still running on no loss and no profit because there’s hardly any parking space available for esteem customers, in such a way that they cannot find his restaurant from the other side, and that too occupied by heavy vehicles on the road in such a way that his restaurant gets hidden. There on, months passed by and there’s no growth in his business but he still keeps patience and Tina gets frustrated. 

To keep Tina calm, he does some good advertising and to the joy of Tina there she finds lengthy queues for parcels and people waiting to get the tables available to sit and eat and within a week of roller coaster ride for his employees and much more profit, Bishu was called upon by his staff to increase their pay and rightly so he does increase their salaries and was very happy with the business running well.

The rise of the fall for his brothers happen this time. Bishu’s brothers Zishu and Nishu get promoted and they were glad and were very happy and about to get married and soon there occurs recession and lots of firing goes on and that shakes them as well and they lose their respective jobs and feel helpless and couldn’t able to live as eligible bachelors and between them Bishu becomes more successful and Tina’s father feels happy with him and wants his daughter to get married to Bishu and then thereon the things go the other way round.

Tina and her parents visit Bishu’s home to meet his mother with a marriage proposal and there on after discussing with her other two sons the mother of three agrees to the proposal and the marriage gets settled between Bishu and Tina and the date as 24th Dec. The two brothers keep good relations with Bishu and give him respect and as such they are jobless they give their time to Bishu and keep him happy by keeping in mind the youngest of the family getting married earlier, and so on.

Food Business Takes Off

Bishu gets much busy with lots of people loving the food his restaurant prepares, and he needs couple of persons to take care of his business while he gets prepared for his marriage and for post marriage honeymoon. Bishu’s mother suggests him to rope in her other two sons in the business to take care of the restaurant and so that Bishu can take a long break and go for honeymoon for a month to a foreign country and spend time enjoying with Tina and much more that he can also relax as his brothers always there being jobless and available.

Bishu agrees to his mom and requests his brothers to take care of his business and he wants to take a long break. Everyone’s happy but not Tina.

She anticipates that the elder brothers know only about the job and they were mere workers and that too as white colour employees or so and they haven’t had any experiences of running a restaurant business and this might be not fruitful idea as she doesn’t agree to Bishu’s decision.

In all these huffs and puffs Bishu successfully convinces Tina and treats his brothers nicely by explaining all about management to keep his business growing and leaves with Tina to Singapore after celebrating his marriage and other two functions related to his marriage.

From Singapore on a daily basis Bishu used to call his brothers frequently to know about his business. And he used to know that every time he calls his brothers, he gets confused as something has been fishy.  

Meanwhile, from Singapore both Tina and Bishu fly to the UK and there they enjoy a lot more than in Singapore, without thinking that they’re short of money and finally they find very little amount with them.

Worried of Business Being Away

Bishu calls Zishu and Nishu continuously but obviously not simultaneously and he cannot get connected to speak to them even though he tries to call them using calling cards but they think international calls might be from Bishu because they don’t need to talk to him as they look only towards making lots of money and they later on keep their phones switched off.

Bishu and Tina get bothered a lot and they decide to come back and they call Bishu’s mother to know what’s on with the two, whose phones been switched of and she was found clueless and obviously not worried about the business but she was happy Bishu and Tina are fine and that’s enough for her.

They both Tina and Bishu come back and get furious as a day before they reach their native place, both of his brothers did a big scam and sold the restaurant to someone and fled away and cannot be found.

Tina’s parents get so much shocked over the breach of contract by the brothers of Bishu that they cannot believe to feel happy or sad as Tina got pregnant during the confused phase. Mixed feelings all around as Bishu was the happiest person when he knows that during that time in the UK, Tina got pregnant, his happiness gets destroyed as his restaurant gets sold out and Zishu and Nishu were missing.

All’s not Lost

Tina files a case and the case gets booked but police cannot find them and helpless Bishu has to live with Tina’s parents along with his mother because he gets bankrupt.

There’s no option for Bishu left now. He cannot ask his father in law again to help him do another restaurant business. He believes he only can do restaurant business as such he has lot of experience and he gets yet another experience of not trusting people blindly even though they’re your own brothers.

Lots of things happen in Tina’s home but they live peacefully as good news comes their way and a baby boy is born and they all feel happy and live happily. Soon, to think about her baby boy, who was named as Tinnu, Tina wants Bishu to work in his father’s company and find a two bedroom rented flat to live respectably and with separation from her parents for good.

Bishu gets a good job as an assistant manager there in Tina’s father’s small company but with good pay as they live a life with a bit of confusion again. Taking good care of the mother of Bishu, Tina finds peace. The lady having lost two sons, who fled away and now she finds herself busy and happy with the nice three. One Bishu, Two Tina, and Three Tinnu.

Sooner, but not later, Bishu promises his mother that he will again do a restaurant business in near future and will continue to make more money for his ambition to get fulfilled. The ambition of Bishu only always in between his mother and him that he wants a luxurious life for his mother to relax a lot in her old age.

Looking back, he feels sad again that he had lost his father. So, he can work hard for his mother and his wife Tina and son Tinnu.

There’s something burning in the small company of Tina’s father, where Tina was there with the lunch box for Bishu. And she begins to get terrified as fire starts spreading in the not so small company. Staff and others vacate the company and all’s not over as they try hard to save Tina’s father but he loses his life and his company gets finished by all the fire covering it and fire extinguishers were used not too many but it’s all over.

Fortunately, Bishu and others in the company now are safe and Tina gets more terrified and hurt as she also loses her father. Moreover, Bishu and other staff lose their respective jobs.

Being Together

It may not matter to the staff as they already have experiences with them and it matters a lot to Bishu, and his Tina and they get shocked and live not in peace for some time.

Yes, they need some time and so for the mother of Tina, as she feels lonely lady. Bishu on noticing the scenario of Tina’s mother, he brings her in his two bed room small and sweet home, where the five in all live happily for a while together and feel better for a while.

And then Bishu without informing anyone starts a fresh juice centre and the fruit juice looks good, tastes good, and makes money for Bishu but not too much from this business, in any way they, the mothers and Tina feel happy to know about Bishu’s fresh juice business and whatever he earns from his small business spends on daily basis, which’s supposedly a hand to mouth kind of a thing and they accept the way they live though their home looks congested with too many people living together, Bishu intends to shift all in a better big house and his intention gets notified to Tina, and she also feels the change must happen as soon as possible as they could live freely.      

Tina helps his hubby find a better home but the rent seems a bit high as they ultimately get one and Tina sticks with it and requests Bishu that she’ll also work in his juice shop and that will help him or may benefit him with more income.

The Adjustment

Bishu agrees to Tina’s decision and joins hands with her towards a new height for their business and as they earn more daily they want to grab a better home on rent, but Tina’s mother advices both of them to shift everything from their current home not to a big home on rent but to a bigger one without a rent. Without no rent and how?

That’s it, Tina takes all five to his late father’s own big home and to make life better and live happily she convinces one and all and they get shifted and feel better and much better.

However, juice shop runs well and daily income gets not saved as the wants keep rising day by day.

Tinnu, the only son gets new toys every week and their expenses increases. 

The increase in income leads to the increase in expenses and their profits from their juice shop remains uncounted as such they live a happy life as in this way they’re not worried and the day comes, where Tinnu grows to a four-year-old and his admission in the nursery school gets done. 

When Tina leaves the juice shop work to do some other well paid job, the income of the business falls down and they lose some money every day.

With the lowered sales, it’s disappointing but then Bishu works as usual and they take things as they come over to them.

The only thing haunts deeply to Bishu is that he’s living not in his home but in Tina’s late dad’s home along with his mother, thereby he feels neither disappointed for himself nor being too much worried but he’s in a bit of bother.

Business Hard Work

So, he by working hard on daily basis brings home every day some good smiles with him and needs no more attention than live happily in the home as all happy five, where’s the profits of his business couldn’t be counted as they stand on his side to make him feel better as at least his hard earned money gets used for all including himself, where it all goes well and ends well every day.

Three years later; on Tinnu’s 7th birthday everyone were busy to provide all the joy to Tinnu on his day, Tina thinks some good and keeps in her mind.

After Tinnu sleeps as he enjoyed a lot and both his parents feel better and they too spend good time together.

In the morning, Tina unleashes what’s in her mind to Bishu.

Bishu agrees to what Tina asks him and about Tina’s intentions after she gets selected in a good online job company. She starts working from home as a writer and to earn more and think better for the better future of their lovely Tinnu.

Tina Helps Bishu

They both loving couple agree as Tina takes care of the grocery expenses and Bishu needs to take care of the miscellaneous, school and other expenses and there on they look only forward by loving and caring each other and they don’t need to pay the rent because they understand each other much better as the rent money gets saved for them to prosper not to mention the house in which they live belongs to Tina’s late father.

Time and again Bishu wants to grow his business and reap more profits but he keeps only trying. There still some wonderful ideas to be implemented.

There’s no worry for Bishu as right from the word go for his juice business he noticed there’s no breakeven and his business made him busy and healthy.

Meanwhile, there’s lot of irritation to Tina from the management over Tina’s poor performance as a writer. She gets annoyed by her company’s management, where she was strictly told to hide the side effects of the medical products from the customers, who wants to buy the products without hesitation.

Tina knows the medical products are beneficial but harmful to with their side effects if consumed with normal water, and she never writes as per the company’s requirements. 

Finally, she resigns her job and joins her hubby’s business and works with him as Bishu feels happy that she kicked the job for avoiding discomfort.

Both of them please their mothers and their child, who’s nine-year-old now.

Both the loving couple work together and their son coming home from the school every day to see his grandmothers of both types, maternal and paternal together loves to be with them and keeps himself busy by doing his school work as well as happier with old ladies and keeps himself busy all the time and waits for long time about his parent’s entry to their home sweet home.

They come home late night by discussing a lot about the profits, and start saving.

After another couple of years of saving they start a food business and with a good name they run a restaurant. Their restaurant keeps growing and with Bishu’s experience of food business and love for food business, they all feel happier and particularly Bishu makes the restaurant do better business. He brings out good from the staff and the staff tries to give their hundred percent and Bishu becomes the most successful businessman in food industry of India.

Summary

It’s been discussed right from the beginning of this book about food business. We also got some interesting science story in between, which was out of the topic but it was about hard work, talent and approach. This book is all about understanding the food business concept.

Well, there’s no excuse if one fails in food business. Only thing is he should start a food business on his own with in depth study about what’s required. Food business such as a restaurant can be good to start with as people are crazy of eating outside food.

It was also discussed later on about another script of a family of five and that gets added with one and then gets reduced to five again and the ups and down they face. They were thrilled later on and are highly satisfied with their successful food business keeps them happy. The ideas are that when you have good knowledge over any subject then don’t lose hope as sooner or later that will come your way.

You need to keep working and live with hopes and change your strategies to make this highly potential business, which is none other than food business of running a restaurant. Restaurant business keeps you busy and satisfied. If you’re planning to start it then just read again this book to get more knowledge in our next edition.
