The post with a headline as “Passport Tearing at Airports Red ALERT” keeps circulating in social media. However, when we researched about this viral “tearing” report, we haven’t come to a conclusion. However, you need to be proactive while handing over your passport to the immigration officers. Precautions always are better than cures.
Be watchful everywhere when you’re at Airports and do not panic. Don’t trust anyone including Airport officers. The report also indicates that every month 20 to 30 cases are happening in India to rob NRIs. Thus, we realized that it’s good to be careful since officers over the years at international Airports in India are corrupt. You need to check your passports after it has gotten stamped or gone through the formality at Indian Airports. It’s more important to be watchful and keep eye contact and focused over the Airport officers.
When you handover your Passport to the Airport officer then keep watching him or her. Never try to be kind if he or she tries to do something other than doing with the short process of stamping. Be vigilant and if you find something fishy then politely and in a louder voice say. “Excuse me, what are you doing?”. This way or any possible way try making him or her know that you’re keenly watching.
You need to tackle the situation with concern and carefulness to avoid your future getting spoiled. Such things can happen but couldn’t be like blaming Airport officers on grounds of tearing you apart. Or to make money through you by tearing a page from your passport. But, it’s often observed that Airport officers in India have corruption records. So, there’s a point that they can go to any extent.
