IPL keeps ignoring young blood not to become debutants

Today’s IPL mega auction for IPL 2022 halted for sometime when the auctioneer collapsed. Sri Lankan cricket star Wanindu Hasaranga was about to be sold at a price over 10 Cr. However, the auctioneer Hugh Edmeades collapsed, but soon in sometime reported to be fine. The auction resumed at around 3:45 pm. Few big players sold at whopping prices along with Hasaranga, but without taking in consideration about consistency in performance. Also IPL keeps ignoring young blood as much that debuting in IPL for young-cricketers under age: 20, looks tough.

The Sachin Tendulkar era was too good when youngsters preferred as IPL wasn’t there. Tendulkar played international cricket at the age under 17 years. He was under 20 when he did wonders to become world famous. Selectors have to reach to watch inter school competitions and tournaments, where young blood performs. Youngsters even under 18 years of age play attacking and match winning innings consistently. They do so and young blood performs everywhere in India, but a few lucky players picked to play for India under 19. That’s good as specifically to know that India under-19 players do play good cricket, but they too find no place in IPL.

IPL turning more towards making money than allowing talented young players to play. Every school kid at present dreams of making in to IPL. But if IPL franchisees look for experienced cricketers then young talent would go unused. Young blood deserves to be in IPL. A couple of players, who maybe around 20 years of age enjoy playing IPL. But no youngsters at the age below 18, play IPL. So playing for India becomes not easy at young age. They’ve to wait for a call after performing too good in the IPL for couple of years.

Big names & IPL career

It’s all about big names and youngsters at the age of 25, who manage to enter the cash rich tournament. One can’t find youngsters under the age: 18 in the IPL. The reason is either they should have an interesting story behind them or equally matched to the international players. International players include top players from all over the world. That means a lot to impress the selectors. This means they’ll have an international cricket career of not more than 10 years. However, couple of decades back, many players played international cricket for more than 15 years. That’s not an issue as long as India keeps winning on foreign soils.

All IPL franchisee teams look for consistency. That’s fair enough. However, if a young player, plays 5 to 6 IPL matches and fails to score or bowl well then what? Also he was about to read the conditions to play his natural game. He looks forward to play exciting cricket too. Accordingly, as he played for his school, enthusiastically, but if he fails in just few IPL games then he will be dropped. He will be no more in IPL.

The problem with IPL is that the best team India will be no more in sometime. Money incoming, sold once not given chance to play any game, and not picked even in the next seasons of IPL. Players come and go. They’ll be finished from IPL when not picked in the playing 11 of IPL matches. Captains prefer winning combinations and if loses a match or two, never experiments with young blood. IPL keeps ignoring young blood, keeping them away from the playing 11.

Why IPL keeps ignoring young blood

The strategy to match India’s young blood with top foreign international cricketers, not worthful. It’s good to know ICC U19 World Cup 2022 player of the tournament Dewald Brevis will join the likes of Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah in the Mumbai Indians. However, he will not be given a chance to play a single game as it happened in RCB. In the RCB, not so young Mohammed Azharuddeen was selected but had never played a single match in 2021. He was known as the most destructive and attacking player. His videos gone viral.

Azharuddeen is now more than 27 years old. He wasn’t given a single chance even though he was sold at a price of 20 lakhs. Why in IPL, young or not so young players selected, but not given a chance to play even a single match? That’s where too many highly talented players come and go. It’s also not good for India’s international cricket level and rankings. Young players or not so young players just happy playing IPL as long as money and fame comes. Also they’ll be more used to play on Indian pitches. Moreover, top cricketers also have become no more India’s match-winners.

IPL auction keeps franchisees to focus on grabbing best players at a lesser price. They also grab not so good players on huge money. Ishan Kishan sold at a whopping 15.25 Cr. Some good players also go unsold. Almost all the current test match players have played either ODIs or IPL. They’ve the ability to score quick runs, but not consistently. It’s good if more players given chance to play in the IPL instead of keeping franchisee bench strength too much strong. Why buy players if the captains never allow them to play at least a single IPL match?
