Suryakumar Yadav likely to overtake Babar Azam in ICC T20I rankings. He is now, ranked number 2 and just 2 points less than Babar Azam. Babar Azam is number 1 in both T20I and ODI rankings since a longtime.
Babar Azam, with 818 points in T20I rankings, edges on top of SKY by just two points. SKY with 816 points, needs to just score in one of the two remaining T20I games against the West Indies. The last two T20Is, #IndvsWI to be played in Florida at Central Broward Park in the United States. If he scores just more than 40 runs in the fourth T20I on August 6, he will be through, to the very top position, overtaking Babar Azam.

With consistent cameos by SKY or by exquisite batter Suryakumar Yadav, and couple of match winning big scores, lifted him from a very lower position, up to the rank 2. He was in a position as below as more than 100, prior to the T20I played against West Indies on Aug 2. SKY scored 76 runs in 44 balls at a strike rate of 172.73. Suryakumar Yadav also hit 4 sixes and 8 fours in his match winning innings of 76.
Also, to stay on number 1 position, Suryakumar Yadav needs to perform just a bit consistently as he’s doing so, with a good strike rate. Performance of players matters only when the team keeps winning matches.
ICC rankings would never please cricket fans, unless their team keeps winning. Performs even better in the ICC tournaments like the one, T20I World Cup coming up in Oct 2022. The first most awaited T20I World Cup match is scheduled to be played on Oct 23, starting at 1: 30 pm. #IndiavsPak T20I in the Asia Cup is scheduled to be played much earlier, on Aug 28. It’s likely that there will be at least two T20Is between these arch-rivals in the Asia Cup.
The #IndvsWi remaining two T20Is will be played on Aug 6 and 7. Starting time is 8: pm for both these matches, in Florida. India leads the T20I series against West Indies by 2-1.
